Can you believe that only 8% of Realtors nationwide have sold more than 4 homes during the first half of this year??? Would you trust what is most likely the largest financial transaction of your life to someone who "dabbles" in real estate?
I see it every day. I see a lot of wonderful agents, and unfortunately I also see a lot who are just way out of their league, who aren't full-time practitioners of this art we call real estate. It's an art because we're not just dealing with homes and land, we are dealing with peoples' dreams and expectations and emotions, as well as legal issues, contacts, and timing.
It often takes hand-holding and a lot of one-on-one time to even get an offer accepted. It takes HIGH level negotiation skills to navigate successfully the treacherous waters of a real estate transaction.
Trusting the sale or purchase of the biggest asset you own to help out your cousin’s barber’s neighbor who “just got their license” is insane.
I ask myself WHY people work with either the first agent they meet, someone who lives down the street, etc. Would you have open heart surgery by a cardiologist you met in line at the car wash?
I suggest you do your research into the education, experience, skill and common sense of the agent you choose. What do their reviews say? What was the experience of others who have worked with them?
This decision is simply too big not to consider very carefully!
